Acratech

The ballheads are precision C.N.C. (computer numerically controlled) machined. All components are machined from solid stock and all structural components are machined from aircraft 6061-T6 aluminum. All threaded fasteners are machined from alloy steels and all bearing surfaces are machined from a special copolymer similar to Teflon.

Ballhead dimensions are:
The height is 4 3/16” (106 mm).
The base diameter is 2 3/8” (60 mm).
The ball diameter is 1 1/2” (38mm).

Acratech ballheads are maintenance free. All ballheads have a 5 year warranty from the date of purchase.
 

The Ultimate Ballhead

This is Acratech's first ballhead and is still a very popular model.  It weighs only 1 pound yet can support 25 pounds of camera equipment.  Although, with camera equipment weighing 15# or more, better performance is achieved with a geared or Wimberly head.  The ballhead can be ordered with either right or left hand controls.

The V2 Ballhead

The V2 has the same characteristics as the Ultimate Ballhead but it is in a more conventional design that is more familiar to photographers.  The new V2 ballhead has a fully adjustable separate friction control whereas the original Ultimate ballhead the friction is controlled by the main control knob.  The V2 ballhead comes with right hand controls.

The GV2 Ballhead

This ballhead has a "Gimbel style" feature that is helpful for long lenses.  This head is great for lenses with a maximum size equal to that of the Canon 100-400mm lens.  The super telephoto lenses should use the Long Lens Ballhead.

The GV2 and the V2 are almost identical except the GV2 has an additional step on the stem of the ball and a pin on the opposite side of the ball that work together to provide a smooth rotational axis for the ball to pivot on giving the GV2 Gimbal like capabilities.

Both the GV2 and the V2 function identically when used as a regular ballhead except when using the side notch the GV2 will stop at exactly 90 degrees and the V2 will go a few degrees further.

The Long Lens Ballhead

This ballhead will be available soon.  You can pre-order the ballhead at this time.  The Acratech long lens head is designed to solidly support super telephoto lenses such as 600 f4s and to provide ease of use, freedom of movement and weigh less than 1 pound.

The head is available with your choice of two different clamps. The indexable clamp allows you to rotate the clamp in 90 degree increments and rotate the clamp in the radiused slot simply by loosening a rubberized knob. This allows cameras without lenses that have tripod collars to be used easily in this head.

The non-indexable clamp is fastened with an Allen screw and can only be rotated by loosening the screw with an Allen wrench. The non-indexable clamp provides a more rigid connection and is slightly lighter but, it is less convenient to use if you are using it with anything other than a long lens with a tripod collar.
